Creepy Crawlies

Okay.. July 15 cannot come fast enough for me. I am so ready to move (but not to do the work) out of my current apartment. To make matters worse, the insect/bug situation is escalating rapidly. In the past year I've found 2 slugs, one gigantic and the other about half as small, climbing my living room wall. GROSS. How does a slug even get into my apartment?

Since I've been moving things and cleaning out from under my bed, in my closet, and everywhere else, I've also come across several spiders--one of which was big, gross, and in my bed. I'm hoping it just happened to crawl under my covers after moving a storage box out from under my bed. I HATE SPIDERS! HATE HATE HATE. I FREAK out whenever I see them and am afraid that they will jump on me and bite me.

I'll admit I've totally used a vacuum to suck up the little buggers but I'm to the point now where I just hit them with a shoe as hard as I can and scoop them up with about 10 layers of toilet paper.

Last night after brushing my teeth I happened to look up and see this on my ceiling:

I'm not going to lie, I effing FLIPPED OUT. Wouldn't you?! So I did what any freaked out female would do--I grabbed my hairspray. Unfortunately, I only have non-aerosol at my apt. It didnt even reach the ceiling--the centipede was unscathed. You know what's funny...it actually came out as a spritz of hairspray, but you know that shit comes out in a stream when I want to use it on my hair (I dont use hairspray often).

So I went searching for something else...the first thing I found was some carpet stain remover that had spray settings for "spray" and "stream." I set it to stream and doused the ugly thing with it. Then I moticed it was leaving streaks on my wall and I thought it was taking the paint off. And you know what else? The thing was still clinging to the ceiling--I was pissed.

I didnt want to take the paint off the wall so I went into my room, grabbed a black ballet flat and my water bottle (another streaming spray bottle) and headed back to the bathroom. I relentlessly sprayed it until it fell off onto the sink counter, smashed it with the shoe, and scooped the remains up with some TP and flushed it down the toilet.

I felt all gross and like something was crawling on me for the longest time after that. And you bet your ass I checked my bed for spiders and/or other nasty things before I got into it.

Now that I've relived the story...I kinda feel like I have bugs crawling all over me. I hate that.

My advice? Start with the water bottle...it wont strip paint off your walls :)

  1. Yuck yuck yuck! I got the sensational that something was crawling on me just reading this! And the next time you had to pee, did you find yourself looking in the toilet to make sure it wasn't still floating in there? I totally do that after I flush a bug! :)
